Test Drive

Welcome to the test drive for Time Trapped. This is an open forum to test out your characters to see how they would fit into the game and if you might be interested in apping them here. We want you to feel comfortable and, of course, test drive threads can be used as samples on your application to join.

First, a few housekeeping things before we start:

  ∞Apps will be open as of Dec 10th at 12 AM, and will reopen on the first of every month. They will remain open until the 10th of each month before closing.

  ∞Both first and third person prompts are allowed in the test drive. We encourage both. We also encourage making multiple prompt options in your post.

  ∞Finally, you will be allowed to transfer your test drive threads over into the game canon should you apply and be accepted.

  ∞If you have any other questions please feel free to refer to the FAQ or contact the mods directly.

Prompts

   1. Acclimating to the environment
While Gideon has a part of the area sectioned off for now based on her calculations of where the time anomalies are going to occur the area is still large and confusing. It’s easy for a person to get lost or overwhelmed in this big mish-mosh of a world. Perhaps you are lost, or maybe you are just settling in.


   2. Reach out and touch someone
Gideon has been kind enough to provide you with a way to communicate. Whether that be a device or a simple SIM card. Why not try it out by sending a public message. Of course, you could also be sending it by accident.


   3. Make peace, not war
While LA has become a hodgepodge of different times it has also become a hodgepodge of different areas as well. Exploring the downtown LA brings you to a section of Greenwich Village in New York. Unfortunately what was once a peaceful protest has grown into a fight between Mogul hordes and peace loving hippies who just want to protest. Local enforcement is, of course, trying to sort out this mess but it seems they might need a bit of outside help.


   4. What's this strange building?
The 'Hall of Justice' stands in a sorry state as nature is trying to overtake it. Vines are crawling up the walls and there is Dimetrodon sunbathing in the courtyard, or what's left of it. Inside, any technology seems to have been destroyed and there is no sign of life. Still, it is a ruin left to be explored and the local archaeological society is willing to pay good money for relics from inside. Be warned that there may still be some rather nasty traps active inside and around the hall. If you happen to be a from the DC world you might see a few familiar faces among the broken statues that once adorned this building.


   5. Let’s dance
The Verdant. A rousing nightclub in 'bad neighborhood' of what was once Starling City circa 2013. There seems to be a wide variety of patrons here tonight, anything from Greek Scholars to some Greasers. What a great place to grab something to drink or maybe cause a little trouble.


   6. Dressing in style
Perhaps you arrived in less than ideal clothing. You may have arrived in no clothing at all. It might just be about time to look through some clothing stores and find what is right for you. Of course, it’s never that easy though. There are pickpockets and thieves all over the streets. You may just become their next victim.

   7. Home for the Holidays
Little old London town is high in festivities right now. It's Christmas and the area surrounding Big Ben is snowy, though it's a bit melty due to the climate in LA. Festive decor and foods for sale circa 1885 in england and emotions are cheery and positive. Take a horse and buggy or attend a christmas party.

Just hope the mongols don't show up. Or Amazons.

"You needed a guy who would happily watch the world burn? There's something you don't hear every day."

Bart looks off. "I know him as a bad guy. One of the more dangerous Rogues, like Cold or Kadabra. Maybe worse because he's a more pure sociopath than you usually meet. Not Joker-level, but then, who is?"

It wasn't a good time, and he starts moving past the Rogues to try to find something a little less depressing. "Him being there that day wasn't a surprise, really. The chance to kill a Flash doesn't show up very often."

Pensive silence from Ray, as he walks behind Bart and listens to his story. Yes, he put his life in Mick Rory's hands more than a few times, and true, he had sociopathic tendencies. But he surprised them all, and has been consistent lately. However, that doesn't mean he's going to go about face here. He just feels empathy for Bart.

"If it makes you feel better, I've died legally once, and pretty sure future me was killed as well. Future me from another branching timeline more specifically."

"Being declared dead is different from actually having that moment when you know your body is too broken to heal the damage," Bart said, without heat. "I wonder if they have the footage of my funeral in here. Probably not, since it isn't the same world."

He remembered it too well. "I know it wasn't exactly me, but I remember bits and pieces of that life, especially the last week or so. One of the perks of being temporally resistant, I guess. Although it's weird not to remember every moment. The only other time like that was when I was in a coma after my scout died."

"I know." Ray knew being shrunk and being dead were two very different things. The blow to his ego, he remembers, when nobody cared about his death. When the city went on without him. All of this talk of actual death and this facing it tugged at his empathy.

"We screwed up this year. All of this may just be part of that screw up. The thing is, at one point in our mission, we saw a seperate time displaced set of Legends. Not of all of us were there. I wasn't. I didn't know what happened to him, to me, but I knew that I was, well, only had one life left in the game of life." Videogame metaphors work.

"I wonder if that's part of how I got dragged in here. Things had gotten really weird with time," Bart said, shaking his head.

"You know, I grew up in a virtual reality, because of my speed. It was they only way they could keep up," he added. "Learning that life doesn't come with a reset button wasn't fun."

"It wouldn't. Most people tend to have a period in life where they think they're immortal." Ray retorts.

"And then you get older and try to find ways to live beyond yourself." Which was kind of the reason he joined the Legends in the first place.

"Yeah, when I became Kid Flash, it was kinda to show that I was tired of living in the shadow of that legacy," Bart said, with a sad smile. "I told my friends that someday the Flash would be in mine."

"Based on first impressions, I'd say that's a distinct possibility, Bart." Ray says, trying to give the kid a little boost to his ego, even if he doesn't need it. Even then, he truly believes this kid will earn his scarlet suit someday.

"Yeah, maybe." He's just not entirely sure he'd want to be out in front like that.

"Or, use your time here to explore what you really want to do. That's another option." He says, deciding to move along to the next exhibit. Something else to look at.

"And what if the reason I got sucked in is because there is no future for me?" Bart asks before he thinks better of it.

"Call me naive if you like, but I wanna say that this situation we're in isn't that selective." A sigh. Bart, you have a complex life.

"This place is so Bizarro-World, it's not funny. The ship wants me to have a guardian, and probably school, too."

"The ship really can't control that, but tell you what. Stick around the Legends and team Arrow the Flash and you'll get support when you need it." Ray replies with utmost confidence in his words.

"It's not quite that easy. Barry wasn't exactly taking the news well, last I saw."

What was he supposed to say? Congrats, it's a boy and a girl, but the Dominators killed them?

"Might want to give him a little time. He just got married." Ray retorts to that, then reaches out to pat Bart on the shoulder.

"They'll come around."

"I guess. It's not like I got to spend time with him back home." Between the way history fell out and everything. "I resented him for coming back when Max didn't, and he didn't know how to deal with having a grandkid without kids in between."

Really Bart, so much, so much to process here.

"So... You aren't hungry by any chance, are you?" He's just gonna feed this kid now. Probably a good diversion.

Bart shot him a look at that.

"Dude, I'm a speedster. I'm always hungry."

Fair point. Ray conceded this point to Bart with a head tilt and nod, his eyebrows high.

"Guess we'll have to find some places that have 'all you can eat' on the menu." He pauses.

"And hope we don't get banned with two speedsters to feed." Don't worry Bart, he's got you covered. Hes a billionaire again.

"If I'm not actually using my speed, I can get by on less," Bart said. "I went a year without using it, and all I got were a few comments about the unfairness of a high metabolism when I could eat third helpings and not gain weight."

He shrugs a little. He is what he is. "But I wouldn't want to go that long again without running."

"We wouldn't ask you to do that if we didn't need to." Could there be a food shortage here? Possibly but likely not. They had resources and they would exploit them if needed.

"C'mon. Let's see if we can find something a little closer to the 21st century." Unless there was a 31st century restaurant they could go to, but he doubted that.

"Good idea. Synthesized foods never taste quite right," Bart said, grinning impishly.

"The Waverider gets pretty close." Ray counters. He usually doesn't have an issue with it, but yes he can see someone preferring real food to the computer made stuff. Part of him supposes, had he stayed in the seat of CEO he easily could have build the foundation for building a better replicator knowing what he knows now.

He leads on towards the exit of the museum.

"Pretty sure I'm not getting inside the home of the nifty AI with the attitude any time soon," Bart pointed out. "I guess it's more that it's easier to compare when you remember everything."

And there's a tone to that which says it isn't always a gift.
