Test Drive

Welcome to the test drive for Time Trapped. This is an open forum to test out your characters to see how they would fit into the game and if you might be interested in apping them here. We want you to feel comfortable and, of course, test drive threads can be used as samples on your application to join.

First, a few housekeeping things before we start:

  ∞Apps will be open as of Dec 10th at 12 AM, and will reopen on the first of every month. They will remain open until the 10th of each month before closing.

  ∞Both first and third person prompts are allowed in the test drive. We encourage both. We also encourage making multiple prompt options in your post.

  ∞Finally, you will be allowed to transfer your test drive threads over into the game canon should you apply and be accepted.

  ∞If you have any other questions please feel free to refer to the FAQ or contact the mods directly.

Prompts

   1. Acclimating to the environment
While Gideon has a part of the area sectioned off for now based on her calculations of where the time anomalies are going to occur the area is still large and confusing. It’s easy for a person to get lost or overwhelmed in this big mish-mosh of a world. Perhaps you are lost, or maybe you are just settling in.


   2. Reach out and touch someone
Gideon has been kind enough to provide you with a way to communicate. Whether that be a device or a simple SIM card. Why not try it out by sending a public message. Of course, you could also be sending it by accident.


   3. Make peace, not war
While LA has become a hodgepodge of different times it has also become a hodgepodge of different areas as well. Exploring the downtown LA brings you to a section of Greenwich Village in New York. Unfortunately what was once a peaceful protest has grown into a fight between Mogul hordes and peace loving hippies who just want to protest. Local enforcement is, of course, trying to sort out this mess but it seems they might need a bit of outside help.


   4. What's this strange building?
The 'Hall of Justice' stands in a sorry state as nature is trying to overtake it. Vines are crawling up the walls and there is Dimetrodon sunbathing in the courtyard, or what's left of it. Inside, any technology seems to have been destroyed and there is no sign of life. Still, it is a ruin left to be explored and the local archaeological society is willing to pay good money for relics from inside. Be warned that there may still be some rather nasty traps active inside and around the hall. If you happen to be a from the DC world you might see a few familiar faces among the broken statues that once adorned this building.


   5. Let’s dance
The Verdant. A rousing nightclub in 'bad neighborhood' of what was once Starling City circa 2013. There seems to be a wide variety of patrons here tonight, anything from Greek Scholars to some Greasers. What a great place to grab something to drink or maybe cause a little trouble.


   6. Dressing in style
Perhaps you arrived in less than ideal clothing. You may have arrived in no clothing at all. It might just be about time to look through some clothing stores and find what is right for you. Of course, it’s never that easy though. There are pickpockets and thieves all over the streets. You may just become their next victim.

   7. Home for the Holidays
Little old London town is high in festivities right now. It's Christmas and the area surrounding Big Ben is snowy, though it's a bit melty due to the climate in LA. Festive decor and foods for sale circa 1885 in england and emotions are cheery and positive. Take a horse and buggy or attend a christmas party.

Just hope the mongols don't show up. Or Amazons.

"Actual magic." The boy walks out from the alley and looks on into hippie town. He should probably get back in there but it's a few blocks from here still. "It's umbral space, so probably." He really never thought about his darkness ability as another dimension, but then he's also not a scientist. "Umbraegeous...something or other, teleporting, they called it. I just call it shadowstepping."

Martin came out as well, seeing how far they were and shook his head. "An amazing gift, young man, amazing, indeed. Thank you, again, for helping me." he was astonished and wished he had some kind of scanner here to just get an idea of what this young man was like.

"have you been here in this oddness long?"

He takes a perch on a nearby city bench, sitting on the seat of it much like the cat he is. It's all about energy conservation here. "Don't mention it. I don't like seeing people get trampled or crushed by horses." A light shrug. "I dunno, couple hours now? I wasn't really doin' much before I got here." Sleeping.

"Thanks. I'm rather glad not to be trampled myself."

Martin nodded, listening even as he looked out over the place. "I was on my ship. Now I'm here and I've seen none of my people. I've been looking for them, but so far, none have popped up." He's concerned and worried, even as he is fascinated by what he is seeing.

Nodding his attention is on the fight for now, ears turned in that direction. At Martin's words regarding the ship however, he knits his brows. Didn't he see something earlier? Yeah. "I think I saw a ship before. I could probably take you there."

"The Waverider? I've seen it as well. I should head back there. See if I can talk Gideon into being less... Gideon."

He sighed. "But I do appreciate the offer. Are you here alone?"

Less what now? You mean the voice? The one he ignored in favor of sleeping off this fever dream? "I haven't seen anyone I know or anyone I recognize." More people he'd want not to be here than actually be here. "Which is probably a good thing."

"Oh? Well, this place seems to have a lot of people in it. Perhaps you will find yourself a new home." He nodded.

When Martin says that, Shad turns his eyes, then his head away. Guilt. True, he doesn't care much for his situation back home. His dad is back but barely in his life even if he pays all the bills for the kid. His mom is back but she's clinically insane. Really, he'd just feel bad about not being able to visit his mother. "I guesso." He winces at the thought about all that transpired about his mom and then rumbles. "Lets go then."

Martin nods and starts off with him, thinking. What an odd place for a kid to be. He will have to talk to Gideon about finding the kid a home he can stay in and be safe.

"Have you talked to any others since arriving here?"

Eh, he can take care of himself, gramps. Don't worry so much, he's the one who saved you after all! Shad walks on towards where he last saw the ship. "A couple. There was a guy in the great hall of heroes, and this other kid, Bart."

Worrying is something Martin does, a lot. Blame the other Legends.

"Hmmm. There's a hall of heroes? Interesting. I'll have to check it out, later. And I don't know a Bart, but hopefully, everyone will find something to do here and some place to... be."

"It's all broken down, old. Like it's been there for a couple decades or more." The boy reports, then walking around a bit of rubble, the start of the ship's crash site. "Do you think we'll be here for that long?" He asks, squinting at the older man.

"So many things, time-shifted from so many eras. It's hard to really be sure when things come from." He shook his head. "It's fantastic!"

Martin shrugged. "Not if my Captain has anything to do with it, but even she is not unstoppable. We could be here awhile."

That enthusiasm was surprising. This old timer reminded him a bit of his grandpa, the way he would talk about stage magic and real magic, show him tricks sometimes. "Almost wanna show you the stuff what's in my world. You'd probably think that was cool too." He replies. Think about it, plant monsters, giant spiders, all kinds of neat stuff. "Whose your captain?"

"I might. I've seen enough in my life to know that there is beauty everywhere, and terror as well."

Martin chuckled.

"Things can be both great and terrible, you know, as someone wise once said." yeah, he just paraphrased a line from Harry Potter. Oops.

Martin almost swells with pride as he speaks. "Captain Sara Lance. And a better captain you won't find anywhere."

Shadow says nothing to that, as he thinks that Martin has maybe lived a much more fortunate life than he did. He doesn't exactly see ugliness everywhere, but he's a bit jaded. There are few things that he really gets excited about, but then again hes supposedly depressed and traumatized. That's another thing he's gonna miss, his councilor. She's one of the people he's had in his corner for the last few years. When he speaks about the Captain though, he grows curious, and a little hopeful. "Uuuh, you guys ain't space pirates or nothin, are you?" He's gotta ask. It would make her even more cooler."

Martin jumps a little at that. "What? Us? Not at all." Not really. Nope. Pirates? noooo.

"We're freelancers." Yes, that sort of described them.

"Privateers." He counters then looks on at the ship, siting on a piece of rubble. "There it is." Oh look, a baby T-rex. "Aww. It's fluffy."

"An acceptable moniker." He nods as he sees the ship, and then the Rex. he sighs.

"And a little dangerous. I believe there were some gazelles about a half mile to the west. He might be more happy near them."

"I can bring him there, if there's a big enough shadow." He doesn't wanna be stuck in umbral space with him. On the other hand... He ducks down into the shadows, and a small mass of darkenss slides over the ground. It moves sporatically, trying to get the little Rex's attention and it does.

The baby starts trying to catch the shadow as it heads in the specified direction, towards an alley.

Shad then pulls the Rex in and brings it towards the place that Martin specified. Or close to it.

After about ten minutes or so, the kid returns.

"You were right. He liked that idea."

Martin watches and talks to a few people on the network while the kid is gone, including a frustrating Gideon, then sighs.

When the boy returns, he nods. "It looks like everyone is out exploring, or napping. I think I may adjourn to my quarters as well. Hopefully, we can talk again?"

"What quarters, where?" Given that he needs to find a place to stay as well... He doesn't want to sleep out here. Too dangerous even for him.

"Didn't you talk to Gideon?" He sighs. "Come, we need to go talk to her. She will have a phone for you, and an assigned apartment place."

He nodded. A kid needed a home.

"No. I didn't really end up appearing right here by the ship." He lifts himself up onto his hind legs again and follows the old man. A couple of years ago he would have been far more less trusting of him. Adults were hard to trust, and most of them were horrible people, he found. Once at the ship he looks up at it and tilts his head. Of course Gideon basically says that someone is going to have to assume guardianship over him. "Seriously?" The boy's voice cracks at that. Damn.
