Test Drive

Welcome to the test drive for Time Trapped. This is an open forum to test out your characters to see how they would fit into the game and if you might be interested in apping them here. We want you to feel comfortable and, of course, test drive threads can be used as samples on your application to join.

First, a few housekeeping things before we start:

∞Apps will be open as of Dec 10th at 12 AM, and will reopen on the first of every month. They will remain open until the 10th of each month before closing.

∞Both first and third person prompts are allowed in the test drive. We encourage both. We also encourage making multiple prompt options in your post.

∞Finally, you will be allowed to transfer your test drive threads over into the game canon should you apply and be accepted.

∞If you have any other questions please feel free to refer to the FAQ or contact the mods directly.

Aside from that, happy test driving.

Instructions:

   1. Acclimating to the environment
While Gideon has a part of the area sectioned off for now based on her calculations of where the time anomalies are going to occur the area is still large and confusing. It’s easy for a person to get lost or overwhelmed in this big mish-mosh of a world. Perhaps you are lost, or maybe you are just settling in.

   2. Reach out and touch someone
Gideon has been kind enough to provide you with a way to communicate. Whether that be a device or a simple SIM card. Why not try it out by sending a public message. Of course, you could also be sending it by accident.

   3. Make peace, not war
While LA has become a hodgepodge of different times it has also become a hodgepodge of different areas as well. Exploring the downtown LA brings you to a section of Greenwich Village in New York. Unfortunately what was once a peaceful protest has grown into a fight between Mogul hordes and peace loving hippies who just want to protest. Local enforcement is, of course, trying to sort out this mess but it seems they might need a bit of outside help.

   4. What's this strange building?
The 'Hall of Justice' stands in a sorry state as nature is trying to overtake it. Vines are crawling up the walls and there is Dimetrodon sunbathing in the courtyard, or what's left of it. Inside, any technology seems to have been destroyed and there is no sign of life. Still, it is a ruin left to be explored and the local archaeological society is willing to pay good money for relics from inside. Be warned that there may still be some rather nasty traps active inside and around the hall. If you happen to be a from the DC world you might see a few familiar faces among the broken statues that once adorned this building.

   5. Let’s dance
The Verdant. A rousing nightclub in 'bad neighborhood' of what was once Starling City circa 2013. There seems to be a wide variety of patrons here tonight, anything from Greek Scholars to some Greasers. What a great place to grab something to drink or maybe cause a little trouble.

   6. Dressing in style
Perhaps you arrived in less than ideal clothing. You may have arrived in no clothing at all. It might just be about time to look through some clothing stores and find what is right for you. Of course, it’s never that easy though. There are pickpockets and thieves all over the streets. You may just become their next victim.

   7. Home for the Holidays
Little old London town is high in festivities right now. It's Christmas and the area surrounding Big Ben is snowy, though it's a bit melty due to the climate in LA. Festive decor and foods for sale circa 1885 in england and emotions are cheery and positive. Take a horse and buggy or attend a christmas party.

Just hope the mongols don't show up. Or Amazons.

   8. Wild Card. Go nuts.

Herbert West / ReAnimator movies

3. Make peace, not war

Despite the fact that Herbert usually spends his days (and nights) in the lab analyzing samples and performing post mortem examinations, he's had the kind of medical training to help the living as well. And while his small stature doesn't help him when it comes to assisting the combatants, he's quick to assist the injured trying to crawl away from the brawl.

An especially massive warrior slings a hippie girl in a peasant blouse over a flowy skirt into a wall. Even at some short distance, Herbert hears he skull crack against the bricks. He runs to her side, kneeling to examine her. He can't see her pulse beating at her throat. This doesn't look good, but he reaches down to feel for it.

The girl gasps, her slack eyelids fluttering. Herbert rears back, staring down at the girl. "What just happened?" he says, surprised, not that she's returned to life, but because it seemed to happen at his touch. Merely at his touch.

7. Home for the Holidays

Herbert has had a tentative relationship with Christmas. Since he turned away from a God Who clearly turned His back on His own creation, he no longer saw much point in celebrating the birth of that God made Man. But he'd be lying if he didn't admit to having a fondness for the season.

He's walking past a row of windows decked in ropes of pine and ivy, full of Christmas cheer. A Salvation Army wind band is playing "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" further down the street, in front of what looks like a book store. He pauses to listen to the music, but the music quickly fell apart. The flute player blew a startled squeak, the other musicians lost the melody, gawking the same direction.

Herbert turned to look, in time for the nearby shoppers in their Edwardian gear to gasp and run for cover... as a group of women dressed in leather tunics and leather battle skirts charged into sight, brandishing bronze swords and shields and staring about them confusedly.

He's not about to take any chances: he's running for cover....

Cue a tiny redhead in glasses pulling Herbert into a nearby tavern,"Vikings in London is nobody's idea of fun not counting old movies." going for a joke to try and lighten the mood. But there's something about this girl besides looking like something from the 50s, there's kindness and grace about her.

He's not much taller than the redhead who's hauled him through the doors into the warmth and homelike smells of the pub. He might look at her startled, but he brushes himself off. "There's certainly ...a very diverse population around here. Is that what those ruffians were?" he asks, still a bit shaken and shocky from the ordeal, but starting to pull his wits together again.

"No kidding and I've seen my share of odd." came the voice of that same redhead. "Feels like a bad B movie if this was not all too real." Kristen offered,"And this is coming from someone who has seen a lot of odd." meaning Gotham. "And vikings is totally a new one, I'm Kristen by the way."

"Define 'seen a lot of odd', if you don't mind my asking," he says, looking to her, and looking her up and down. His affect is a bit flat, but there's a quiet amount of life in his hazel eyes. "I've seen a fair amount myself, of a scientific variety. History wasn't my strong point.

"I'm Herbert, Herbert West," he adds, more engaged, even a shadow of a slightly adolescent squeak in his voice.

"Well does the cause of current Gotham problems being an insane asylum count along with a coworker who speaks fluent riddle?" Kristen observes. And in spite of the retro wardrobe there's something about her in full steam.

He blinks, raising an eyebrow. "I could see a mental hospital being a nexus of oddness, but a coworker talking in riddles? Riddles of the sphinx or would-be witticisms?" he asks, intrigued.

Come to think of it, this guy could arguably be a more dour and cranky, as well as pint-sized cousin to Nygma.

"Little of both? Mr. Nygma has been known to use both types of riddles." Kristen admits.

Both eyebrows have raised now. "That takes some talent, though I imagine he must be either a nuisance to work with, or he's the funniest guy in the room. Or something between the two.

He looks her up and down again. "I'm guessing you're in academia?"

"More like professional nerd, I'm a file clerk and archivist for the police in Gotham." Kristen admits. "As for Mr.Nygma he's odd to say the least."

That gets a tiny hint of a smile out of him, though he might be hiding a slight tremor when she mentions working for the police. "At least you're putting your skills to good use, to a noble cause, helping those who...serve and protect."

The barkeep, polishing glass beer mugs behind the counter, has by now spotted them. "Don't moind yer comin' in, but are ye orderin' or meetin' oop?" he asks.

Herbert might dart a look between the barkeep and Kristin. "I guess I owe you a drink, at least, for getting me away from those ruffians out there."

She managed to walk down this part of the place that had Big Ben. Her version of recon. There's something Dickensian about it. She also spots the cheerful band playing Christmas music only to be interrupted by what looked like a band of really angry Amazons or really angry Xena fans.

As the people run, she reaches deep to bring out Frost. When they start to charge, she creates an ice wall between the shoppers and the Amazons.

"Just got here and already making friends," she snorts to herself. A rogue spear is thrown toward one of them that's running for cover and she creates an ice shield around him. Staring down the other warriors, she makes her way over to where he is cowering. "They weren't even attacking when you started hiding."

"I'm not exactly the most robust individual," the short guy who looks like the definition of a nerd (albeit a nerd in an off the rack black suit) says, from his cover behind the basin of a fountain. He might have started pulling his scattered wits together staring past the interloper... and then really staring at the ice walls between the Amazons and the spooked shoppers. The Amazons might have started taking tentative jabs at the ice.

"It's colder than I thought it was..." he says, completely thrown by this experience. "Water main broke?"

She holds up her hands, staring down at him, frosty air rolling off her hands in waves. Frost stares down the man; she's been around nerds enough to recognize them. She looks over at the shoppers and nods in the direction away from the Amazons so that they could scurry away. She turns back to look at him.

"Whatever helps you sleep at night. Better get going unless you feel like being a kebab today."

[personal profile] wasnt_fresh_enough 2017-12-01 06:46 am (UTC)(link)
He notices the frost roiling about her hands, and he rises, goggling at this. "You..? You did that...?" he asks, curious as well as surprised. "How is that possible?"

And yes, his scientific curiosity has gotten the better of his sense of self-preservation.

She rolls her eyes at his questions.

"Why do scientists always ask questions as the worst times?" she asks. There's more poking, prodding, and eventually, they're starting to beat on the ice wall. "That wall can only hold them away for a short while."
