Test Drive

Welcome to the test drive for Time Trapped. This is an open forum to test out your characters to see how they would fit into the game and if you might be interested in apping them here. We want you to feel comfortable and, of course, test drive threads can be used as samples on your application to join.

First, a few housekeeping things before we start:

  ∞Apps will be open as of Dec 10th at 12 AM, and will reopen on the first of every month. They will remain open until the 10th of each month before closing.

  ∞Both first and third person prompts are allowed in the test drive. We encourage both. We also encourage making multiple prompt options in your post.

  ∞Finally, you will be allowed to transfer your test drive threads over into the game canon should you apply and be accepted.

  ∞If you have any other questions please feel free to refer to the FAQ or contact the mods directly.

Prompts

   1. Acclimating to the environment
While Gideon has a part of the area sectioned off for now based on her calculations of where the time anomalies are going to occur the area is still large and confusing. It’s easy for a person to get lost or overwhelmed in this big mish-mosh of a world. Perhaps you are lost, or maybe you are just settling in.


   2. Reach out and touch someone
Gideon has been kind enough to provide you with a way to communicate. Whether that be a device or a simple SIM card. Why not try it out by sending a public message. Of course, you could also be sending it by accident.


   3. Make peace, not war
While LA has become a hodgepodge of different times it has also become a hodgepodge of different areas as well. Exploring the downtown LA brings you to a section of Greenwich Village in New York. Unfortunately what was once a peaceful protest has grown into a fight between Mogul hordes and peace loving hippies who just want to protest. Local enforcement is, of course, trying to sort out this mess but it seems they might need a bit of outside help.


   4. What's this strange building?
The 'Hall of Justice' stands in a sorry state as nature is trying to overtake it. Vines are crawling up the walls and there is Dimetrodon sunbathing in the courtyard, or what's left of it. Inside, any technology seems to have been destroyed and there is no sign of life. Still, it is a ruin left to be explored and the local archaeological society is willing to pay good money for relics from inside. Be warned that there may still be some rather nasty traps active inside and around the hall. If you happen to be a from the DC world you might see a few familiar faces among the broken statues that once adorned this building.


   5. Let’s dance
The Verdant. A rousing nightclub in 'bad neighborhood' of what was once Starling City circa 2013. There seems to be a wide variety of patrons here tonight, anything from Greek Scholars to some Greasers. What a great place to grab something to drink or maybe cause a little trouble.


   6. Dressing in style
Perhaps you arrived in less than ideal clothing. You may have arrived in no clothing at all. It might just be about time to look through some clothing stores and find what is right for you. Of course, it’s never that easy though. There are pickpockets and thieves all over the streets. You may just become their next victim.

   7. Home for the Holidays
Little old London town is high in festivities right now. It's Christmas and the area surrounding Big Ben is snowy, though it's a bit melty due to the climate in LA. Festive decor and foods for sale circa 1885 in england and emotions are cheery and positive. Take a horse and buggy or attend a christmas party.

Just hope the mongols don't show up. Or Amazons.

"Yeah." Sara looks back, unruffled, and if Caitlin is canny enough, there's the hint of something in Sara's expression that combines, twining up both deadly seriousness and a smug kind of amusement. "I haven't seen the t-rex that tried to eat us last time yet, but he's probably around here somewhere."

"A little freaky when you haven't even married Grandma Iris yet, I take it?" Bart said, with a sympathetic smile.

"I always heard the treadmill was one of the things you built to help study you speed and the speed force. It certainly helps with running through time. Otherwise you're leaping blind."

The name is familiar but not quite familiar enough to trigger any recognition from him. He shakes his head.

"No, I think I'd recall someone like that. Let's see. Vixen, who is a member of our team now, Hourman, Dr... Mid-nite, Commander Steel, Stargirl, and Obsidian." He has to pause to remember a few of them, having only met them briefly, but it pays to remember the people sacrificed their lives for a cause you shared with them.

Of course if Bart didn't want to see the museum again, Ray wouldn't mind checking it out alone.

"I'm pretty sure this Jay fellow you mentioned knows the Flash though."

Harry moves forward curious. The symbol looked like the ones he'd seen on Jay's helmet and for a moment Harry is terrified. Jay helped him work out a training plan for Jesse and he considered the older speedster a good friend. He looks over the young man's shoulder and speaks quietly so as not to spook him, which according to Cisco he has a habit of doing without meaning to. "My Jay Garrick mentioned something about the Justice Society of America," he said, "I'm starting to wonder if this is their headquarters."

Sara's head turns in the direction of him, and far be it for Mick to say hello or Sara to say it back, when he can throw a question and she can cut her eyes in that direction (catching his expression, the gun, and that start of his clothes all in it), while sounding shortly annoyed.

"If I knew that, I'd be inside the ship already, Mick."

That there are no boys in blue suits to fix this problem is annoying, but not as annoying about thinking about needing them, again. She's not about to even start saying she needs anyone, no less the Time Flunkies, this early.

"Wow, things are really shuffled around, then. I knew Stargirl and her stepdad when I was Impulse. We teamed up a few times," Bart said.

"It's this way. Pretty sure it's not from the same time as that AI implied the base timeline year was. Wrong tech level."

He didn't mind going back. It would help him try to straighten things out in his mind. Things are hard to get a grip on.

Yeah, he's awake how, eyes open and more or less alert. Feet shift under him while his head still pounds. Stay down? For now anyway until he's recovered enough to go at it again. The cops are moving in, a few bullets firing over head. Yeah, he can't focus right now. "You wanna bail?"

The Verdant is here? [ That's a super blast from the past, isn't? In a completely different way from the cavemen still trying to decide if they are running from or attacking a parked car one street over from where she is. ]

Any clue what area it's in? Is anyone else headed that way?
Can you see anyone who isn't a soldier, or trying to step on you?

"It looks similar to the one I knew, but not quite the same," Bart said, softly. He didn't know what to think.

"You know Uncle Jay." Not a question, really, but he turned, looking at the man, and putting the piece of statue on the plinth as he worked his way back out. "With this much growth, the place has been abandoned for decades, if not centuries."

"Perhaps if we combine what technology we did have access to we would be better able to contact the Time Bureau," Rip says carefully. He knows if he tried to contact them on his own most likely they would swoop in to grab him and attempt to clean up the mess, which could be a good thing or it could make things much worse. At least if Sara did the talking they might be more willing to listen and the Legends could help with the clean up, while Rip remained quietly in the background.

"I know it's a lot to ask of you to work with me again Captain Lance, but you may need to figure out what is going on here. I promise to follow your orders without question." It wasn't exactly an apology but it was a start.

"Just today, so you haven't missed me much yet." Kara shrieks and dodges his next one entirely, absolutely throwing a burst of superhuman speed into missing that lobbing glob of snow. "Except just now."

If that grin is totally all about saying that on purpose after cheating with the only other boy, who isn't her cousin, that can keep up with her, it's truer than it ever was a minute ago. It was so good to see a good friend.

Save it for someone listening, Rip.

[ Yeah, she knows she's on a phone and physically required to be engaged in the act of listening to hear him, but the point stands. Hard. Almost sharply angry at the ground it razes just by his daring to go there. She can't convince her voice to stay entirely flat and professional, but then she's not sure she can keep any of this that way.

Not after what he did. Not his team. And not to hers.
Not after asking her to trust him, and saying he wouldn't apologize.




Sara's gaze turned high, narrowing, face pinched, even as she blinked the buildings in front of her vision back into existence.
Getting an idea, that wasn't so much a distraction as it was as cold and obvious a shut down as her words. ]

We should pick a small group of the people who've already checked in to start sweeping the buildings for suitable shelter, and food, and technology for now. Start getting everyone working together whether this is short term, or not. Get some of the others, who can handle themselves, to sweep the distortions of threats.

Rip hears the emotion and does his level best to keep his own tone calm even though it hurts, deeply hurts to hear Sara speak to him like that. The Legends did all they could to save him when he was trapped in the past, did everything they could to save him when he turned against them and shot Sara and with one disastrous mission he'd ruined all that trust and friendship. "I would suggest possibly having one of the Legends lead each of these teams. You have the most experience dealing with a broken time stream and will know how to guide those who don't through the mire of whatever is going on."

Be careful, be calm and know when to step back and let someone else lead. It is what the Time Masters tried to train into him and he is finally learning the lesson a little too late.

This particular bar was a dive, but it was quiet enough. A few good patrons scattered around the room, sports on the TV that looked like it was made in the 80s. They didn't mind the kid at the bar with his hood up either, who was snacking on some cheap bar food, a couple of burgers mostly, letting his tail sway gently back and forth behind him. As for payment, he had already traded one of the weapons he'd collected off one of the other inhabitants of this world to get some money and it should at least pay for a meal. When Sara walks in he glances over his shoulder at her. Damn, that woman has presence. Way she holds herself he can tel she's dangerous.

This particular horse and buggy was being driven by a cheeky little cat meta who snuck aboard, and even stole the driver's hat and jacket while the guy was getting merry in a pub. So what, it's kinda funny that he's driving these horses around. He tips the hat up and glances down with a grin at the lady asking him. This was the best part, couple of women freaked out the last time he stopped. Maybe this'll be funny too? "Hop aboard, miss." He says in his best cockney/british.

Ray should stay with the ship and Gideon.

[ He was the best they had for looking at it, outside of Gideon, who wasn't helping, and Rip, who'd had Gideon and the Waverider longer, but whom Sara wasn't going to leave alone with the ship or Gideon or anyone if she could help it for quite a while. ] Martin is still looking for Jefferson, in case their introduction knocked him cold.

There're a couple people from Barry's group here, too, and I'm sure they'd be willing to pull in.

"S'good to know. I think I said it before but I heal quick too." Never out of the game for too long. He's not exactly a super healer but small wounds heal within a few minutes, larger take an hour or two. "So long as there's enough shadow to maneuver around in. Gotten trapped in em a few times." Not pleasant. Dropping into one, he reaches out for Bart to grab onto so he can pull him down too.

"2017? That's the year it is for me, or was. I think this was in May of this year when this all took place. Except back then, a temporal cleaning crew came to clean all of this up. Something must have happened. I've got a few ideas but nothing concrete until I can see some data." Which Gideon doesn't seem keen on providing right now. All the sass from that AI.

"And you're right. If you knew Stargirl in this era, when I know she's in the 6th century right now. I'm inclined to think you're definitely from another Earth given the discrepancies in history. Anyway, I've been meaning to ask, do you know a Barry Allen? You mentioned Wally." Of course he knows as the Kid Flash and then there's Barry.

There's also something familiar about the boy which he can't quite place.

It's been a long day. All of the days feel long. She's doing time triage with less at her disposal than gauze and scotch tape. people to houses. People away from aberrations that want to eat, maim, and kill them. People into houses. All the information down. Trying to 'politely' argue with her own AI about letting her back into her own ship, or even to giving her more information than the ceaseless introduction speech.

Days have to end though, and ends of the day, especially long, hard work days (especially the kind where your phone doesn't even get to be off, because you might have to run out at any minute still), call for drinks. Which has Sara walking into the bar with an easy care than anything the day's events and choices lend to her. Catching the attention of the bartender while she's headed up.

"Anything. Surprise me." There's the flip of a smirk, as she sets a hand on the bar. "Make it worth my while."

There's a glance to her side, for someone in hoodie, and a, "Hey."

[The voice sounds more like a helpful kid in a classroom rather than a fully adult superhacker.]

Heard but never been I'm afraid. If you can give me a few large blobby landmarks I can probably find you.

When the two collide there's an audible 'oof' that escapes her as the wind is knocked out of her. If it weren't for Cisco she would have hit the pavement like a ton of bricks, sore butt and all. As it stands though his steadying hands on her shoulders cause her to wrap hers around his waist. Not the typical girth she's used to, but appreciated to keep her from meeting the pavement in a very embarrassing manner.

Once she hears his voice though, she can't help smiling back, and the hands she was using to automatically steady herself become hands that are pulling him into a tight hug.

"Cisco! I heard from Barry," That tight hug might linger a bit longer, but it's important to have people that stabilize you in a world that's apparently gone in its head. Especially when all your daily ones seem to not be there. "And Thea, from like, three years ago, but so far that's it." That hug ends quickly as she realizes something and pulls back, staring at him in the face. "Tell me you're not from three years ago too; what's the last thing you remember?"

"It's gonna be okay Thea, I promise." She pauses, but the crunching of gravel is clear so she's still there. The trail seems to be getting smaller actually, and she wonders if maybe she's getting closer. "Why don't you tell me about something that made you really happy. I'm sure I'll be there before you finish."

While trying to stay at least semi calm and catch her breath it was an easy decision,"Besides you guys and family its Roy, no contest." since the man known as Arsenal would always have a key to her heart at least on some level. As memories poured out she was starting to level out and sound a lot less paniced.

I smell coffee, least I think its coffee. I'm also seeing a really blurry tower and what looks like people in hippie wear? I'm the redhead in the torn pencil skirt and twin set.

I haven't exactly gotten out to look around yet. I've had a word with Thea but I don't think she's coming, yet. She knows I'm here.
