Test Drive

Welcome to the test drive for Time Trapped. This is an open forum to test out your characters to see how they would fit into the game and if you might be interested in apping them here. We want you to feel comfortable and, of course, test drive threads can be used as samples on your application to join.

First, a few housekeeping things before we start:

∞For the moment apps are open continuously, however that may change once there is a larger playerbase.

∞Both first and third person prompts are allowed in the test drive. We encourage both. We also encourage making multiple prompt options in your post.

∞Finally, you will be allowed to transfer your test drive threads over into the game canon should you apply and be accepted.

Prompts

1. Acclimating to the environment
While Gideon has a part of the area sectioned off for now based on her calculations of where the time anomalies are going to occur the area is still large and confusing. It’s easy for a person to get lost or overwhelmed in this big mish-mosh of a world. Perhaps you are lost, or maybe you are just settling in.

2. Reach out and touch someone
Gideon has been kind enough to provide you with a way to communicate. Whether that be a device or a simple SIM card. Why not try it out by sending a public message. Of course, you could also be sending it by accident.

3. Make peace, not war
While LA has become a hodgepodge of different times it has also become a hodgepodge of different areas as well. Exploring the downtown LA brings you to a section of Greenwich Village in New York. Unfortunately what was once a peaceful protest has grown into a fight between Mogul hordes and peace loving hippies who just want to protest. Local enforcement is, of course, trying to sort out this mess but it seems they might need a bit of outside help.

4. What's this strange building?
The 'Hall of Justice' stands in a sorry state as nature is trying to overtake it. Vines are crawling up the walls and there is Dimetrodon sunbathing in the courtyard, or what's left of it. Inside, any technology seems to have been destroyed and there is no sign of life. Still, it is a ruin left to be explored and the local archaeological society is willing to pay good money for relics from inside. Be warned that there may still be some rather nasty traps active inside and around the hall. If you happen to be a from the DC world you might see a few familiar faces among the broken statues that once adorned this building.

5. Let’s dance
The Verdant. A rousing nightclub in 'bad neighborhood' of what was once Starling City circa 2013. There seems to be a wide variety of patrons here tonight, anything from Greek Scholars to some Greasers. What a great place to grab something to drink or maybe cause a little trouble.

6. Dressing in style
Perhaps you arrived in less than ideal clothing. You may have arrived in no clothing at all. It might just be about time to look through some clothing stores and find what is right for you. Of course, it’s never that easy though. There are pickpockets and thieves all over the streets. You may just become their next victim.

7. Wild Card. Go nuts.

[OOC: I would like play the Doctor though at least "Knock, Knock" (S10E04)(Flashbacks of "World Enough and Time" S10E11 is preferred), but I'm happy to avoid any major spoilers, if people let me know.)

The Doctor wasn't supposed to leave Earth. He had promised. But this was Earth so he was covered on that point. It didn't feel like his Earth though, and that was going to be problematic.

"Time Storm. That much is clear. Space Storm too. That... could be very bad."

He holds up a finger sticks it in his mouth and repeats the actions.

"2017, that's good. Same time. Something tangy. Oh! Dark Matter. Interesting. May not be the same universe, then. Very bad, indeed."

He's mostly muttering to himself at this point.

"No TARDIS."

But he felt around in his pockets. Sonic, Psychic Paper, other odds and ends he always carried. Okay, well, he could do this.

"But where to start. What to do?"

[He takes out his phone when he hears it ping.]

An automatic upgrade. Interesting.

[He presses a button and speaks into it.]

Hello, is anyone there?

[She wasn't expecting her phone to ring, but this place is weird and mixed up, so she should have honestly expected everything all at once.

She picks it up and hears a man she doesn't know on the other line.]

I'm here. Who's this?

The Doctor. I guess you'd call me newly arrived.

[Well, he'd call himself that. Since he's not exactly sure what's going on here.]

Time Storm, I'm feeling a little disorientated. Time travel without a TARDIS isn't really recommended.

[Did he say The Doctor? Did he say TARDIS? Internally Felicity can't help squealing. Externally she's trying to be cool. After all, for her, he was just a TV character and how would she feel if someone came out and told her she was a TV character? Not well, that's how. So she tries to focus on facts from his words. Time Storm. That makes sense. Time Storm; ok that makes very little sense unless you know a little about the concept of temporal physics and sci-fi. Thankfully, she does.

ALso, she should probably pretend she doesn't know what he's talking about when he's talking about his insanely awesome TARDIS.]

TARDIS?

[Oh god, he's going to tell her about the TARDIS! This is quite possibly the best day of her life!]

I know a little bit about temporal physics, well, the theory of it. From the sound of it I'm guessing you have personal experience.

[Except not, because why would he tell a total stranger anything proper about it - especially over the phone? But, he doesn't sense that she might be a 'fan'. At least not yet.]

It's my ship and nothing else matters since she's not here.

[At least not that he knows.]

You could say I dabble a bit here and there.

[Because humans are pudding brains and can't really comprehend the level of time knowledge that he has. Give him a bit, he might even mention being a Time Lord.]

[It's disappointing, but she's not going to dwell on it. She doesn't actually know him, just knows him in the TV show that she's watched her whole life.]

Do you know what's going on then?

Well, just arrived like I said. There was a message from some Gideon...

[But he didn't actually pay attention to it. Welcome to reality with the Doctor, he'd rather explore on his own.]

It wasn't actually helpful. I mean a place to stay is great and all, but an explanation would be better.

[He considers this for a long moment.]

Is there something difficult about 'time storm'? Sounded like we were all dragged here from different times and places. Possibly different universes. I'm not sure on that last one yet.

When you've never been through it before? Yeah. And what do you mean different universes?

[This has officially turned into a sci-fi show. Well, more so than it already was.]

Well, easier to explain in person, actually. It seems abstract to people who've never experienced them.

[Alternate, parallel, and pocket universes are all 'things'.]

On the whole, a time storm is exactly what it sounds like it is.

I'm Felicity, by the way.

Good to meet you, Felicity.

I suppose we could meet.

[There's a buzzing sound. Yup, he just tracked her location with his sonic by using the phone signals.]

Stay where you are, I'll come to you.

[OOC: unless his devices are against the rules, but it didn't seem like it?]

[OOC: So long as it doesn't get him into the ship it's fine.)

[For a moment she's about to ask how he knows where she is, but then she remembers the GPS on her phone. He probably tracked her through that.]

Alright.

[ooc: Makes sense, there are a lot of doors it can't open in canon :)]

[About ten minutes later he's looking around. The location is 'right' or at least close. So he's starting to look around objects to see if he can find the mystery woman.]

Hello? Felicity?

[She's looking around, frowning and dressed completely inapropriately for the occasion of being left in a time storm. When she hears her name being called she turns to look in the direction; seeing the Doctor. He's not any of the Doctors she knows. Which is weird, but she's still not going to say anything about it.]

Doctor?

[Even better. He's dressed something like this, sunglasses and all (What it's sunny!)

He turns around when he hears his name.]

Ah yes. That's me. The definitive article, you might say.

[Well, that is some outfit. They look like they're fit for a night on the town. She makes her way over and offers her hand.]

It's nice to meet you, Doctor.

[So, so nice. It's amazing to meet him. Even if he doesn't look like The Doctor that she's watched for years it's still him. Probably a newer regeneration - or there was maybe the Doctor she knew from TV was some kind of misrepresentation.]

[He shakes her hand.]

And you. Now.

[He reaches into his pockets and starts pulling things out.]

You asked about universes. So, this is universe prime.

[He puts a handkerchief on the ground. Then he holds up a ball and places it on the edge of the cloth.]

This is a bubble universe.

[He pulls out another strip of cloth and puts that parallel to the first and places a pencil down to 'connect' them.]

This is a parallel universe.

[He looks up.]

Do I need to keep going, or do you get the idea?

[She watches in a type of fascination. It's one thing watching it on TV but it's another seeing The Doctor doing this in person. It's kind of amazing.]

No, I think I get it. It's just ... well, it was just science theory and fiction until a few minutes ago.

Oh.

[Something clicks.]

Wait a minute. You were caught in a time storm and you still thought it was all just science fiction and theory?

[This is going to make for a very long day.]

I meant when I got here. The last thing I remember is walking out a door.

[It's really weird not being the smartest person in the room right now. Hell, it's weird standing here and talking to The Doctor.]

[She'll get over it eventually.]

Really? You didn't feel anything, you didn't sense anything?

[That's... very weird.]

[She's not sure she wants to but then again she's pretty sure she doesn't have a choice.]

Not really.

[Any abnormality that she might have felt could easily be attributed to the intense embarrassment that she felt after her boss kissed her and then apologized and ran away.]

I assume in any normal circumstance I should have.

[Based on what he's saying and how he's saying it.]

Interesting.

[He rubs his lip.]

Not necessarily. Different universes, different time storms. Though the word 'storm' should be pretty indicative that something should happen.

Different universes but the same destination.

[She frowns.]

What are the chances that this was caused by someone?

[Not that she knows anyone who could do something like this.]

[He raises his eyebrows.]

Well, I suppose it's possible in theory. To at least manufacture a time storm or start one. But once it's going, you'd have no control over it. It'd be very dangerous.

So not likely.

[Part of her wants to think that's not surprising, but after the stuff she's been through over the past three years she can't help wondering if there's someone behind it still.]

Not likely isn't the same as impossible.

[So, he hasn't ruled it out entirely.]

No, and I've seen a few less than likely things turn out to be true in the past.

[Neither is she.]

[For the best, really.]

Oh, yes. Some things are entirely impossible though.

[He smirks.]

Like me for instance.

[There's so much she could say to that; especially as a fan of the show. She knows it's best not to say any of them though. So instead she mentally says all of them and chooses to say something else.]

How are you impossible?

Oh, well, time storm or not. I'm here for a start.

[And without his TARDIS. Like he said, impossible.]

If you're here then it's possible, just improbable.

No, no, no. You asked me why I was impossible, and I stated it. It's not just a time storm. Those usually remain within the same universe. For it to move from one universe to another, makes it something different....

[And now he's pacing a bit, it sometimes helps him to think. Because this isn't really what Ace described. It has to be something similar but powerful enough to yank him out of the TARDIS? Well....Impossible.]

[She'd ask him how he knows that they're not from the same universe but really, he's the Doctor there's nothing about time and space he doesn't know.]

Great, so it's a multiverse time storm. Which means either of us could meet our evil doppelgangers at any moment - or would that just cancel us both out, meeting an alternate universe you?

[He looks a bit horrified at that thought.]

Well, there are only a few universes where parallel versions of my planet exist. And to my knowledge so far, we don't exist in alternate universes.

[In other words, it would be terrible.]

Usually a giant implosion only happens if you meet yourself. Or an earlier or later version of yourself and you try to rewrite your own history.

Thankfully I don't plan to do that.

[She has nothing to rewrite. Well, something, but that's not really something she'd be able to change.]

But I could still meet an alternate version of myself. Which, seems disconcerting, but at least it won't implode time or anything.

Yes. For now. People say that often until they realize that they can in fact rewrite their history and try to do it.

[Sorry, he's just not impressed with humanity, nor does he expect people to hold to their promises of not changing things.]

Well, it could. It just less likely is all.

[She's not going to argue. Mostly because he's The Doctor. She knows, however, that she wouldn't change her past; even the bad parts of it. Her past is what made her the person she is today and she's kinda proud of that person and enjoys the life she has.]

Anything particularly avoidable?

Well, I'd like to avoid being stuck here any longer than necessary for a start.

[He's now looking around them and has distracted himself.]

Oh, you mean about meeting other versions of yourself. Really, best not to meet yourself, it can be quite embarrassing.

1. Content warning for robot bugs.

If Shadow knew that he'd be thrown into another reality, which this had to be because what was the alternative? A dream? It could easily be a fever dream actually, but it felt real, and he'd already cut himself on a piece of glass. It was a fighting day today and he was covered in tiny robot ticks, nerfing his powers and weakening him as he walked along. Not to mention the inhibitor collar that turned them off completely was about to turn off training mode so once that happened he'd probably pass out, being at the mercy of anything that might find him.

The collar beeped and a red crackle of energy arced around him as his healing ability was turned off by the collar, allowing the ticks to override that. He shouted in pain as he fell to his knee, then onto his chest, blacking out completely.

Is that the Christmas outfit?

Nope, it's from several Episodes of S9

For some reason I can only remember the black jacket with the red lining.

Yeah, that was S8 and most of 9, the red came at the end

It's sad that I'm completely caught up and I failed to notice his clothing choices.

I didn't much care for the style choices in S10, but on the whole, liked it.

I was a big fan of the fact that he had a picture of Susan on his desk in season 10.

Oh yes! Moffat didn't do enough with it, though.

Agreed. I feel like there's a lot of fear in doing a lot with the old stuff though.

Yeah, that's all in Moffat's head, though.
