Test Drive

Welcome to the test drive for Time Trapped. This is an open forum to test out your characters to see how they would fit into the game and if you might be interested in apping them here. We want you to feel comfortable and, of course, test drive threads can be used as samples on your application to join.

First, a few housekeeping things before we start:

  ∞Apps will be open as of Dec 10th at 12 AM, and will reopen on the first of every month. They will remain open until the 10th of each month before closing.

  ∞Both first and third person prompts are allowed in the test drive. We encourage both. We also encourage making multiple prompt options in your post.

  ∞Finally, you will be allowed to transfer your test drive threads over into the game canon should you apply and be accepted.

  ∞If you have any other questions please feel free to refer to the FAQ or contact the mods directly.

Prompts

   1. Acclimating to the environment
While Gideon has a part of the area sectioned off for now based on her calculations of where the time anomalies are going to occur the area is still large and confusing. It’s easy for a person to get lost or overwhelmed in this big mish-mosh of a world. Perhaps you are lost, or maybe you are just settling in.


   2. Reach out and touch someone
Gideon has been kind enough to provide you with a way to communicate. Whether that be a device or a simple SIM card. Why not try it out by sending a public message. Of course, you could also be sending it by accident.


   3. Make peace, not war
While LA has become a hodgepodge of different times it has also become a hodgepodge of different areas as well. Exploring the downtown LA brings you to a section of Greenwich Village in New York. Unfortunately what was once a peaceful protest has grown into a fight between Mogul hordes and peace loving hippies who just want to protest. Local enforcement is, of course, trying to sort out this mess but it seems they might need a bit of outside help.


   4. What's this strange building?
The 'Hall of Justice' stands in a sorry state as nature is trying to overtake it. Vines are crawling up the walls and there is Dimetrodon sunbathing in the courtyard, or what's left of it. Inside, any technology seems to have been destroyed and there is no sign of life. Still, it is a ruin left to be explored and the local archaeological society is willing to pay good money for relics from inside. Be warned that there may still be some rather nasty traps active inside and around the hall. If you happen to be a from the DC world you might see a few familiar faces among the broken statues that once adorned this building.


   5. Let’s dance
The Verdant. A rousing nightclub in 'bad neighborhood' of what was once Starling City circa 2013. There seems to be a wide variety of patrons here tonight, anything from Greek Scholars to some Greasers. What a great place to grab something to drink or maybe cause a little trouble.


   6. Dressing in style
Perhaps you arrived in less than ideal clothing. You may have arrived in no clothing at all. It might just be about time to look through some clothing stores and find what is right for you. Of course, it’s never that easy though. There are pickpockets and thieves all over the streets. You may just become their next victim.

   7. Home for the Holidays
Little old London town is high in festivities right now. It's Christmas and the area surrounding Big Ben is snowy, though it's a bit melty due to the climate in LA. Festive decor and foods for sale circa 1885 in england and emotions are cheery and positive. Take a horse and buggy or attend a christmas party.

Just hope the mongols don't show up. Or Amazons.

It hurts. It hurts to see him and feel him like this.

Broken 2017?

She immediately hugs him. She had ruled out a Frost adventure since she had been conscious between when she was home and being here.

"I don't know. I was on my way to work and then this happened. Do you think the Legends know about all this?"

Oh boy this was going to be a mess, Quentin thought to himself. Time travel was seriously a bitch and he was wishing his daughter or one of her Wave Rider friends was here to help him explain this, because he sure as hell wasn't going to do it right. He ran a hand over his face. "Okay," he said, "first thing. I know you are the Arrow so lets get that out of the way right now. From where I've been I've known that for a while. Second thing...I'm ahead of you by two years."

There are some easier and worse jokes, still lingering on the back of her tongue. Things she could say to her crew. Things she could say to the Oliver from her time. But not to him. He isn't really game for jokes about permanent damage and death, not really, not even if he might try to roll with it. 

It might be the fourth time he thought he saw her die in front of him, but it was the first one he had a body for and no miracle cure. Not yet. 

And not yet ready for the joke of it, that was never quite a joke. How close Sara and dying, or almost dying, were eternally linked. He was nowhere near ready to hear it'd happened again after she left with the Legends. Or that she'd just come back from precariously close to it again, only a short time ago. Not tonight.

"I need--" Sara started once the cute bartender with the long jet black hair freed herself. She looked back at Oliver, narrowing her eyes, because she was nothing if not at least a little predictable in this. "--two 4 Horsemen." 

Which is exactly what she has in her hands, when she's headed back. She held out Oliver's glass with a far too telling smirk, "To trust."

Rip nodded even though Sara couldn't see him. "Wise decision. I'll walk a grid and send anyone who I come across toward the Waverider," he says, "if anyone has experience dealing with the mess they can either join me or head toward you and the others to start walking another part of the grid." Keep away from the Legends for now, he decided, let them get used to his being here than they can cross the next bridge when he's done. "I'll check in at regular intervals."

I know, and I'm not keeping you there. Secrets almost tore us apart, I'm not letting it happen again. [She knows too well what secrets and lies do. How they can break the toughest of people, like Thea, like Oliver. She knows the cost of leaving people and being left in the dark and she won't do that to Oliver. He's too important to her, too much her heart. While the comment could be a bit more exposure to the nature of their relationship in 2017, it could also refer to the team. Both are just as true. Besides, she knows all too well how he feels about her in his time. How she felt about him. How it felt to watch him try to bury his heart deep within him instead of letting the brightness of it show through.] I guess we should start with Sara. [She frowns heavily, the crease still pressing between her eyes. She knows how much this is going to hurt and how strange it's going to be, but as she told Sara, he has a right to know these things. Especially if they're going to cause him pain later.] Has she told you anything about how she's alive and what she's been doing for the past three years?

[It's surreal, seeing an action figure sized man get thrown out of a shaft in the ship he lives in. At least she knows he doesn't have any broken bones thanks to the size thing. Just broken ego and broken pride. Actually, they might be worse for Ray then bones. She makes her way over, the tablet still in hand and crouches down next to him, scooping him up in her hands.] You okay?

"Pretty sure the Time Ship could captain herself if she so desired," Bart responds, amused. Was it a 21st century thing to discount the AI, or just the lack of opportunity to be shown how independent even initially programmed people could be. It didn't really matter to him.

He shrugs a little. "Yeah, that's right. He's one of the first generation of Titans, so when Nightwing didn't want the job, he stepped up. There are a lot more of us where and when I'm from, although not as many as there are in the Legion. That's probably because they've got so many planets to pull membership from, though."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's one of those things that's best we avoid for now. There's something called "Science Police" and they don't seem fond of meta humans.

[Yeah, being small made it far easier to get out of a tight situation, plus he had his armor to take most of the blow. Still, it's more than his ego that's bruised and he is a little slow to bring himself around.]

Seriously, Gideon?

[He pushes himself up to lean on a back arm, one knee bent as it seems he's a bit more stiff than he ought to be. Suit's down. Damn.]

I am so, so glad you didn't make a bet with me just now...

"She certainly can, however Sara is our captain and Gideon usually defers to her. Likewise when Rip was captain she did the same courtesy to him." He explains as he entered the restaurant. He goes up to pay at the front for the two of them.

"Gideon's not exactly cooperating now, which is why we're wondering what changed." Why the lockdown, why the sass?

So much information to process on the Titans, but he just gives a nod to that and thinks back to when he last met Roy. Was that what he was doing now? Or was he just laying low?

That can still get incredibly complicated, Felicity. [ Sara didn't like it, but it was what her people dealt with on a daily basis, skipping here and there in time, fixing aberrations at their source. Or as close as could be. Or as close to what would make the timeline realign itself as those the aberration had been a mere wrinkle forgotten behind it. ]

The smallest things, that you wouldn't even think are relevant, can have disastrous effects even. The simplest things from missing a meeting, to having a single overzealous conversation on a topic that hadn't been focused on before, can erase relationships and even create people who had never existed before. [ Two in an endless assortment of situations they'd been put through. ]

I'm not saying we need to keep everything from him, but we have to be careful, too, if we want to be able to return to 2017 and have Oliver still be the person he was only days ago for either of us. If he's told too much he never has to live through anything he's done since 2015, or he's Oliver and he tries to change or fix any of the worst parts, and he becomes someone entirely different. We all might.

Sara, I know.

[To an extent it sounds like Sara is dismissing the things Felicity has been through. That she's forgotten that of all the people on Team Arrow, Felicity is one of the prime people to understand the gravity of the situation. If things change, then her entire life, a life that she's more then content with, a life where Oliver can finally smile and be content, could be washed away with the flow of time. She's seen it first hand when everyone learned about what Barry did by going back in time, by Barry telling her what he did.

She knows.

She also knows that Sara is not trying to make it sound that way. That she's just as worried as she is with all of this. Not just for Oliver and 2017's sake, but also because this is what she does. This, being the captain of the Waverider, is just as important to her as being Overwatch is to Felicity, as the continued existence of The Green Arrow is to Oliver.]

When I said mapping I didn't just mean topographical. I'm talking about temporally too.

We don't think this is something you've come across before. Unless, you know, you've been to a place where time doesn't seem to actually exist.

Also, I have Ray in my pocket. He's sort of stuck action figure size.

Hey! [Felicity's phone goes off, Ray's smart watch giving her a call as he climbs up to the trim of the coat pocket. Even while he's small and hanging with one arm put, the other accommodating his watch so he could speak to them.

Once he gets on speaker so he doesn't have to shout, he speaks.]

I understand that we have obligations here, Sara, but think about it. Amaya knows far more than she should and she was with us for a while. So far nothing major has happened to Mari.

That would be her granddaughter.

Oliver doesn't need to know the specifics, but he should know enough to get by. Obviously not anything he can use to change things.

Donna was in a similar position, finding herself in a strange place. "Aah," She squealed as she ducked into the place that Quentin now found himself in.

"What was that?" She exclaimed, boarding on hysterics. Her face was shocked but relieved at the same time. "Quentin? Is that you?"

Leo? Cisco? I don't think the breach worked right. This is not right. Not, where I am supposed to be. Leo, I knew that I shouldn't have left you behind. [ He closes his eyes and counts to 10 before opening them again. ]

"Could be a self-diagnostic safeguard," Bart suggested as they got in and he started to load up a tray.

His choices were probably interesting to watch, given the high amount of protein and carbs for muscle health and easy energy, but there were also plenty of greens to fill in essential vitamins and minerals. He knew his nutritional needs, having had them drilled into him by Dr. Clairborne and others in his life. Bart might pretend to eat like just another teenager, and before he even finished his first trip he caught the amused glances of those who assumed he was either a teenager who pigged out or his eyes were bigger than his stomach.

"I guess I probably should be trying to figure out the rules here, and it seems to be more your world than mine."

Ray picked himself out a steak and a salad from the salad bar, him also very nutritional conscious. He avoids the simple carbs like the plague however and keeps his meal protein heavy. However, once he sees the red potatoes he's gotta have a little.

Like the onlookers, he is also has a bemused expression on his face. Speedsters. He wondered how often Barry ate at a place like this? What were his grocery bills like?

"It could be diagnostic, but she seems almost passive aggressive." Ray replied, then took a bite of his salad.

"Yeah, seems like it. But why it's causing breaches to occur and drawing you and that other boy in is not quite clear. That didn't happen before."

“Great, just great. Leave it to me to get lost…again!” Kara muttered to herself and carried on walking.

Leo groaned and sat up. "Okay that was completely unpleasant," he grumbled as he looked around. He couldn't see the other Legends or the Waverider anywhere and for a moment he spared a thought for his husband. He would never admit it out loud, but he missed Ray deeply. They hadn't been apart this long since Ray was captured and even then it was just long enough for Leo to form a plan to break him out.

He shook his head dragging himself out of his dark thoughts. Now was not the time to get personal. He stood up and checked that the cold gun was working before heading off to find the others.

Leo had been wandering for what seemed like hours searching for someone familiar. He was starting to feel like he had after his Mick had died and before he'd met Ray, lost and broken. It's why he'd decided to join the Legends. He could see Mick and the others breaking apart and he'd wanted to help them.

But he missed Ray deeply, so when he saw him at first he thought he was dreaming, but as he got closer he felt his heart leap and he realized what a terrible decision he'd made in staying behind without him.
